On the Water
Cast a Line
Summit County offers both lake and river fishing within minutes of the condo, covering spin/reel and fly fishing alike.
A 3,300-acre reservoir with 27 miles of shoreline, stocked annually with roughly 50,000 rainbow trout and home to brown trout, kokanee salmon, and Arctic char — one of only a few public fisheries in the lower 48 states where char can be caught. Productive year-round from shore or boat, with the three river inlets (Blue River, Tenmile Creek, and Snake River arms) especially good in spring and fall. A Colorado fishing license is required for anyone 15 or older; the standard daily bag limit is 4 trout.
A Gold Medal tailwater fishery immediately below Dillon Dam through Silverthorne, known for large, technical trout feeding on midges and Mysis shrimp. This stretch fishes year-round and is walkable from downtown Silverthorne. The upper Blue, through Breckenridge, offers classic freestone pocket-water fishing for wild brown and rainbow trout.
Both feed into Dillon Reservoir and offer additional fly and spin fishing water, particularly productive near their inlets where fish stage seasonally.

Fourteeners — Expert Difficulty
For experienced hikers in strong physical condition who do not suffer from altitude sickness. These are full-day, high-alpine endeavors above 14,000 feet, not casual hikes.
The only 14er in Summit County, about 20 minutes from The Eyrie near Hoosier Pass. A class 1 route, making it one of the more accessible fourteeners, though still a demanding 6–7 hour round trip. A parking reservation or paid shuttle from Breckenridge is required mid-June through mid-September; the trailhead lot fills before sunrise in peak season.
Twin fourteeners about an hour away near Loveland Pass, often climbed together. Roadside parking is prohibited and enforced; the upper trailhead lot fills by 5–6 a.m. on summer weekends, requiring a 3-mile-each-way hike from the lower lot if missed.
Hard / Strenuous
A 6.6–9.2 mile round trip past Mayflower Lake, Continental Falls, and a chain of alpine lakes, about 20 minutes from the condo near Breckenridge. Free, but the trailhead lot is one of the most popular in the county and routinely fills by mid-morning; an early start is recommended.
A steep, locally popular climb starting right from downtown Frisco, with sweeping views of the Tenmile Range and Dillon Reservoir. Free and walkable from town with no parking concerns, but a serious leg- and lung-burner for its length.
Easy / Moderate
A shorter, family-friendly high-alpine hike to waterfalls and meadows near the Quandary Peak trailhead. Shares the same parking reservation/shuttle system as Quandary in peak season.
A moderate out-and-back through aspen groves to a scenic lake beneath Buffalo Mountain. Free trailhead parking near I-70 exit 203, though it can fill on weekends.
An easy, well-marked walk through wetlands and aspen to a beaver pond, just off Second Avenue in Frisco. Free parking, rarely an issue.
A short, easy loop with one of the best panoramic views of Dillon Reservoir in the county. Free roadside parking on Swan Mountain Road.
